My Inspiration

This last weekend was mother's day. Sure every year I would write my mom a heartfelt mother's day card telling her I love her and appreciate her. Not until this year did I really start to see all the sacrifice and hard work she put into raising me. Not until I had my own little one to pour my heart into did I grasp all that my mom really did in shaping the person I am.

My mom was not only my teacher in an academic sense, (I was home schooled all the way through elementary school & high school.) but she taught me how to cook, how to take care of a house, how to devote myself to the Word of God and how to be a loving wife. She really taught me what is means to be a woman desiring after God.

Now she's teaching me how to be a better mother. Whenever I have a question about motherhood or parenting I always ask my mom for advice. One of the times I feel she really saved me as a mom was just after we had brought Evelyn home. It about 3 days after having her and if you breastfed your child you know where I'm going with this. My breasts were so engorged and painful. Not to mention the fact that my hormones were causing me to be on a constant roller coaster of emotions. I was balling Nick didn't know what to do so he called my mom. He didn't really have to say much. She could hear my crying in the background and came right over. She hugged me and reassured me that everything was normal and that I'd be alright. It was so comforting having her there.

I never went through that stage of not getting along with my mom. I never had the angsty teenager relationship with her. She's always been my best friend and I could always tell her everything. She could always get the truth out of me even back in high school. I've never been good at keeping things from her. I'm just happy that I still have that relationship with her. I feel like I can tell her anything and she'll honestly listen and give me sound advice.

She has an amazing personal relationship with God. She has a heart for fervent prayer. I can remember even as a young kid her doing her quiet time in the dining room while I watched cartoons and ate breakfast before starting school work.

She is extremely talented in many things. Most notably quilting, knitting and writing. She has already made Evelyn one quilt and is working on another for her to use when she gets a toddler bed. She knitted Evelyn this most adorable outfit. She has written a couple novels. She's tried to get them published, but hasn't had any luck with it. She also writes the VBS skit almost every year.

Is this outfit just precious!

I love you mom! Thank you for being such an inspiration to me. Thank you for everything you do for me and my family. There is no way I could thank you enough. You're an amazing mom and I hope to be just as great of a mom as you are to my little ones.
